Refurbishment of the pontoons during ongoing operation

St. Pauli Landungsbrücken without ice and snow
Several million tourists visit the landing bridges in Hamburg on the Elbe River. Due to heavy use, the existing pavement showed considerable defects. Cracks in the surface and detached components of the coating were increasingly endangering safety. In addition, due to the immediate proximity to the Elbe, there was a constant danger of slippery and slippery surfaces in winter, requiring very costly winter maintenance. The section-by-section refurbishment of the pontoons with short closure periods enabled traffic and tourism operations to continue in the period from August to December 2018. From now on, an integrated surface heating system automatically prevents the formation of dangerous icy slippery conditions and increases safety for pedestrians and cyclists on the traffic routes directly on the Elbe. This ensures safe walking and cycling without the use of road salt and snow shovels, which are prohibited on the Elbe.
